Helo! I have a Bareos 17.2.4 installation with separate Director (on VM) and Storage (on physical server) daemons. Storage is connected to FC tape autoloader.

Everything works normal, I can do backups and restores, but oftenly jobs are finished with "warning" state and I see similar error in log:

<hostname> JobId 91: Error: block.c:1024 Read zero bytes at 8:0 on device "tapedrive-0" (/dev/tape/by-id/scsi-<wwn>-nst).

After this error message job continues as normal.
What does that mean and how I can avoid this warning?

Thanks.

Hi,

I would be grateful if someone could respond to Mikhail's question. We are also having a similar problem with the bareos-sd that is causing our Full backups to complete at 'warning' even though the backup is OK.

Error: dev.c:973 Unable to close device "tapedrive-0" (/dev/tape/by-id/scsi-3500143801604315d-nst). ERR=Input/output

As with Mikhail's job our job continues but does not complete successfully. Any assistance appreciated.

Thanks, Joe

You should inspect carefully system log on each SD to find the root cause
certainly linked to hardware and its sublayers (FC).

Be especially pick-nick about firmware used on server and tape lib and kernel.
Bareos as any massive backup program is pushing the hardware to its limits,
so this one has to work 100% even under heavy load (which is not so easy to
find).
